It is in our core to provide value each step of the way in our creation process from design, manufacturing to packaging. We start our creative process by carefully selecting fabrics that serve a higher purpose.
Our fabrics are crafted with a perfectly balanced blend of ECONYL® (regenerated nylon) and recycled polyester plus LYCRA® (elastane) to provide additional elasticity and comfort. By using recycled fibres we want to give a second life to used nylon, polyester and other plastic waste, keeping it out of the oceans and landfills.
For every 10.000 tons of ECONYL®, YOU are contributing to a cleaner environment by:
Eliminating 12.6 thousand tons of waste
Saving 70 thousand barrels of crude oil
Avoiding 42 thousand tons of C02 equivalent emissions
Saving 865 thousand GJ on total process energy
Once we selected our fabric, our next endeavour was to find a place to manufacture in an ethical and sustainable way.
According to the International Labour Organization, around 170 million children are engaged in child labour with many making textile garments just to satisfy consumer demand - this makes it 11% of children global population.
We found a facility that was able to transform our ideas into beautiful pieces of art without any risk of child labour being involved in the creation process. Child labour is still a major problem within the fashion industry and only a few big players are genuinely trying to tackle this. With this concern in mind we have established our production in Portugal (Europe), a country famous for its high quality textile production and where anti child labour laws are effectively enforced.
Thank you for being a consumer with a conscience!
ECONYL® Regenerated Nylon - Transforming ghost fishing nets into fashion
The ocean is full of discarded fishing nets, "ghost nets", that are estimated to kill around 300.000 marine animals each year - CEO of Aquafil.
We are using regenerated Nylon which is a man-made, versatile fibre commonly used in the swimwear industry for its excellent characteristics such as strength, elasticity, resilience and smoothness to mention just a few.
According to the UN it is estimated that 640,000 tons of fishing gear are left in our ocean each year. By choosing ECONYL® we are supporting a specific recycling process that keeps the same purity and characteristics of Nylon from virgin raw materials, but that at the same time contributes to eliminate tons of ocean waste, save energy and reduce emissions.
Recycled Polyester - Transforming plastic bottles into fashion
It is estimated that there are over 150 million tons of plastic in the ocean today and that each year at least an additional 8 million tons are leaked - World Economic Report 2016.
Polyester is the biggest man-made fibre used in the textile industry, as well as one of the most polluting ones. Although polyester isn’t biodegradable, one amazing aspect of polyester is that it is completely recyclable and you can use pre- and post-consumer plastic waste to produce recycled polyester. Additionally, the production process of recycled polyester uses less energy which in turn also results in fewer CO2 emissions compared with raw polyester.
